Exploring Culture Project (Italian & Mohawk)

1) Culture is what your background is. Where your ancestors come from and where in the world your family comes from. You culture is yours because it’s your blood. Your personality qualities can also be determined by your culture.

2) Pow wow in Kahnawake
Italian week in Montreal
Ma Donna church ceremony

3) Some have stories behind them. The whole point of this event is because of something that happened many years ago. It’s beautiful because some traditions have costumes they wear like the pow wow for example. The native dancers have their costumes. It’s important that we have these events because then we don’t forget where we came from or why we’re here.

4) I would tell them about Italian week in Montreal every year. I would tell them about the pow wow. I would explain why each event happens and what kind of activities we do on this day.

Culture has a lot of different meanings. Some are art, food, music and literature. It constantly changes and can be easily lost. Culture belongs to me in many different ways such as music, my background and food.
Traditions i have with my cultures of irish, french, ukrainian and polish that i celebrate with my family are christmas, easter, thanksgiving, St-Patricks day, Valentines day.

Culture is something that everyone has, but everyones is different. It belongs to me in a pretty small way, my family has alot of different cultures in it. I’ve heard alot about Greek traditions, In Greek tradition if a man wants to marry a women he is supposed to ask her father for her hand. I find that really special because now a days people don’t usually do that, they rush into marrige and rush into divorce.
If someone came here and i had to show them something of my culture i wouldn’t have much to show them really, just how my family is which is our culture

1. What is culture? How does it belong to you?
Culture is your tradition, like the language you speak, and it has to do with your family religion, sometimes it has to do with how you dress or eat too. My culture belongs to me because it has you looking a certain way for ex. I look Greek, because I am Greek. I don’t exactly know how to speak it, but I know people that do and when they speak English they have a accent.

2. Which local or national traditions have you heard of?
I heard that when everyone is celebrating easter were not because we have our own easter. Were we eat lamb, and there are these hard boiled eggs that are all painted its some kind of game.

3. What is special, beautiful or important about them?
What is beautiful about Greece is how it looks, I find it looks so pretty I love it.

4. If people your age came to visit, what local or national traditions would you tell them about?
I would tell them about Christmas and how my family all gets together and exchanges presents on December 25. If I was into my culture and everything i would tell them about easter, I’ve done that a couple of times with my friend who was Greek we went to their family easter.

5. Find an image that you think describes ‘culture’ and paste the link to it in your response.
